Someone taps your shoulder and says your name. “It’s me, Robert Levine.”

You turn around and come face to face with your blind date. He’s not exactly the man you were expecting. His tie hangs three inches above his waist, his shirt is two sizes too small, and his pants are a shade of mauve not seen since high school proms of the early 1980s. You catch a whiff of his cologne, and it’s like a sickly mixture of vanilla extract and mosquito repellent.

Pete politely walks to the opposite end of the bar and starts polishing empty mugs.

“I didn’t think you were showing up,” you tell Robert.

“I’m sorry I’m late,” he says, and then he lowers his voice to a whisper: “I had to make number two.”

“Excuse me?” you ask.

“I had to make number two,” he says again. “I must have eaten some bad meat.” Then he gestures to an empty table and says, “But I feel fine now. We can still have dinner.”

You can’t believe what you’re hearing. Number two? Bad meat?
